Today was the first day of our 7th year of living afloat on MR and we wouldn't change it for the world - neither of us regret the decision and neither of us could bear to return to a static life; let's just hope our health permits
Yesterday I pre-ordered some smoked bacon from the butcher in South Kilworth and set off with Muttley to collect it
The ditches are looking a little lively and I knew a lot of the going would be filthy so I left Baxter in his armchair with G
our destination; followed by a pint and a packet of porky scratchings in the village pub before heading home again
We pulled pins late lunch heading for Crick, but it was too late to get there and we called it a day by Yelvertoft water point at 5.00pm - nice to see the noticeboard there being kept up to date; it was advertising the Crick Boatshow 2008!
This morning I celebrated the anniversary with kidneys tomato and bacon for breakfast (courtesy of yesterday's 4 mile round trip to the butcher) and the boys thought that they might get a look in if they looked cute enough (wrong!).
and we watered and completed the trip to Crick for much needed milk and veg at the Co-op and a celebratory £5 lunch at The Red Lion - we know how to have a good time. Then moved on to a nice place of tranquility just through the tunnel
to sit out tomorrow's forecasted appalling weather
Pheasants to pluck, wood to chop and a dog to strip out
Not a soul around
Perfik
Congratulations on your anniversary! I hope you have many more years afloat - and are able to blog about them, too!
ReplyDeleteCheers, Alistair
Thank you Alistair - so do we. Stay with us; we'll need familiar voices as we 'go foreign'
DeleteHappy Anniversary !! :)
ReplyDeleteTell the boys that I'll give then lessons in how to act cute when there's a chance of a bacon & tomato sandwich coming my way. They'll have to get behind me in the begging queue... LOL
Kevin you are under estimating Muttley's elbow power. I look forward to witnessing this competition...LOL
DeleteHope Harry is well. The wind is starting to roar now....getting seriously lively
That's a great anniversary and what great plans you have for the year to come - yay!
ReplyDeleteSue, nb Indigo Dream
Thanks Sue; we really are going to miss people though!
DeleteHappy anniversary Jill, Graham, Muttley & Baxter, wow, those years have gone frighteningly quickly, it don't seem any where near that long since you had the 'van at Upton!!! Just keep on blogging - you are only as old as you feel, if you start to feel a little old, then start counting backwards (it works for me I started some years ago when I reached 65, I will be 60 this year!!!, and don't feel a year over 50)
ReplyDeleteBeardy Chas & Liz
Thanks guys. It isn't that long since the van was at Upton though - if you remember we kept the van and came out for the first year or two.
DeleteI like the idea of reversing the numbers Chas, rather than counting backwards - that way we'll both be 06 years old soon (why not - I behave like a 6 year old most of the time anyway)!
Lifes too short to pluck pheasants. Skinning them is much quicker!!
ReplyDeleteNice to hear from you again and you're absolutely right - skinned they were! He had intended to pluck one for a roast, but gave up when his fingers went numb
DeleteHappy Anniversary from Sue and Dave. North Kilworth was were I got Sanssouci
ReplyDeleteThanks you two - pure beginners by Dave's standards though
DeleteHey your moored in our spot! We met briefly when you moored st Yelvertoft on Mon pm. I'm on Canopus moored back near Winwick, anyway I hope you managed to get some decent veg on your foray to Crick and that you are now busy plucking......good luck with your adventures and congrats on the 6 yearaversary...weve been at it for 10. Mikala
ReplyDeleteHi Mikala, it is a great mooring here and excellent off the towpath walking for the dogs. Veg sourced and birds sorted; we just need to get to Weedon by Sunday without getting blown overboard and drowning! Great to meet you - sorry we didn't offer you a lift but I think you were quicker on foot
DeleteJoseph Morris was 'our' butcher when we lived in Great Bowden.
ReplyDeleteI bet you miss 'him' on the K & A, or have you found a good alternative?
