On tenterhooks today

Today is the day we will receive a 'phone call with the fixed price for MR's transport from Cassiobury Park  (Watford Grand Union Canal) to Nieuwpoort (Belgium. Plassendale-Nieuwpoort Canal). We couldn't get a firm price before now as no-one would commit ahead due to fluctuating fuel prices.

We are also awaiting a reply from the Nieuwpoort Marina regarding availability of a crane in on 14th April. Oo er! It's this year now; in fact we are talking weeks.

Meanwhile, back in dear old blighty, the winds abated enough for us to move off of the mudbath
 towpath at Blisworth.
they did open the sluices yesterday just before the water came over the top
So we pulled pins at lunchtime, having caught up with the washing, and filled the tank and emptied the rubbish at Gayton Junction before mooring in the middle of nowhere and doing a couple of hours lumber jacking
So nice to be on a wide, mud free, towpath where the dogs and cat can roam outside without bothering, or being bothered by, anyone.

Famous last words - a boat moored right behind us just as darkness fell - there is so much room here...why? And they've got a greyhound. Greyhounds, Lurchers and Daisy are not the best of mixes.

PS the carrier didn't ring us as promised

  1. Brian, re your comment on that older blog; only a little water but it's reassuring to know it's in place - especially as we go to pasture new

  2. Poor Daisy....she'll never look at greyhounds the same way after Middlewich :-)

    1. Hi Greygal - we were just wondering if the pirates had retired!
It wasn't so much the hounds at Middlewich that dented her confidence; more the attack by 3 Lurchers at Loughborough.
It's G and I that worry now; your and Sue's nervousness has (probably rightly) rubbed off on us

  3. Greyhound owners eh? Always pushing their way onto your moorings, drinking your drink, keeping you up late - what can you do with them :-)

Oh my, France suddenly seems so close - just been reading the Canalboat articles about boating in France - sounds idyllic!

    1. Just embrace them really Sue - let's face it, you're not going to get rid of them. I expect they'll turn up in France too, especially as some of them have motorhomes at their disposal

    1. What's the expression Sue?
"The road to hell is paved with good intentions"
      Should we be afraid?
