We moored up at Blisworth only to find The Royal Oak closed on the Monday and in the process of closing down totally. The guys in the village shop directed us back to an hotel which was amazingly dog friendly and had the most adventurous menu I've seen in a long while (at reasonable prices),; we didn't get to eat there, but will make a point on our way back to the Northampton Arm.
Left for Stoke Bruerne at 9.00am in full wet weather gear although the rain stopped and didn't start again until we were moored. However, Lesley and I left the Blisworth tunnel to take the dogs over the top but managed to miss the path, picking up on a local bridleway instead which just became deeper and cackier with every step taken. We were then harassed by a herd of cattle, became completely lost and came close to ending up back in Blisworth. We, eventually turned up at Stoke Bruerne around 2 hours after the boats a journey, of what should have been 2 miles!!!!!!!
Do you mean the Walnut Tree? We've eaten there many times and our dog Tess has always been made welcome. They also have free wifi.

If you fancy an indian, the Spice of Bruerne is lovely. We've eaten there a cople of times and the food is great with resonable prices. Have fun.....
ReplyDeleteThanks Dave, that's exactly where we meant, thanks for the heads up on the food, the menu looks interesting

Hi Del and Al, we did the Spice of Bruerne justice last night. Hope you both well, well of course you are, Living the Life!

Hi Jill,
ReplyDeleteWe passed you on Good Friday, although I didn't catch on at the time. You were at the services below Stoke Bruerne Locks as we were heading up the flight. Our wayward Jack Russell, Tess, had just finished sniffing round the rabbit warrens and I think you were worried about her falling in the open manhole.
Regards,
Dave Edwards
She was not wayward, she was lovely. Are you on a boat Dave?
ReplyDeleteHi Jill,
ReplyDeleteWe keep "Sophie-Jane No.2" at Kingfisher Marina at Yardley Gobion. Unfortunately we live near Southampton so it's a 2hr trek to get to the boat. I can't retire just yet, although I sometimes feel I just work to pay my tax bill - and boat expenses, although I resent that less than paying tax....
We also have too many committments back here; mainly amateur dramatics, so it will be the end of May before we can have a proper long trip. We're also a bit tied to home with cats and chickens, but Jen hopes that either our Lucy or Rob will move back to the area when they graduate and we can take off for 6 months of fair-weather boating.
Regards,
Dave
